If you had the opportunity to take a job that paid about 60% more than you're currently making, with the caveat that you had to take a temporary (around a year) step backward in technology or programming language, would you do it?
Allow me to elaborate a bit more.
I'm currently in a position where I've been doing .NET (ASP.NET in VB.NET syntax) with the 1.1 Framework for a little over two years.
I've done Classic ASP in the past, and did so for right around 4 years.
The opportunity that may come up is one where I would have to go back to doing Classic ASP for right around a year, then go back to doing .NET (not sure which framework, but I'm hoping 2.0) as the company wants to migrate over from Classic ASP to .NET.

its been my expreience that when they say they're going to migrate to this or that, that they dont unless h*ll or high water comes along. fact of the matter is that most need a really good reason to port from one technology to another. we're having a big trouble moving from 1.1 to 2.0 simply because of the new asp.net project structure (or lack thereof).
60% is a pretty good jump in pay though. if nothing else, it's a good jump in pay. if you have to switch again fairly soon, you still have 60% higher wages to bargin with, and thats a nice place to be.
I've done that in the past, but have days where I want to stand up and walk out (even though everything else about the job is lovely, working with a crappy technology can sometimes drive you crazy).

You have a very good point with regard to the company actually migrating to .NET.
I figured if I could do some "side" stuff in .NET (I have SharpDevelop, so I could theoretically do some side stuff), to keep my skills sharp, and to keep my resume current.
A 2.0 Framework cert might not hurt, either.
A 60% jump is a big jump, and you're right, it would make me much more marketable from a salary standpoint..
