It would be helpful to have a post preview function to see what the message would look like without having to post it yet. I know that a lot of people will probably not need it since they probably won't need/want to format anything. I always try to make an effort to make my posts readable and would use formatting a lot and would appreciate this function.

great idea, I find that most users aren't using the bbcode yet, maybe it could even give them suggestions. How about that MS paper click guy? lol

I have that on the list, but honestly it is not as trivial as it seems (if it seems trivial).
It does sound like a fun project though :)
If you come across any open source editor previews that I could work from that would be great Jeff.

In my mind, I thought all it would take is to put the post contents into whatever is used to render them on the site in a temporary block. I guess it's not that trivial then. I can't say that I (actively) look for these kinds of things but will let you know if I ever come across one.

Wait a minute, do you want a live preview or a button you can press to see the preview? The latter is fairly trivial. The live preview is the tricky one.

Oh yeah, I mean a preview button to see how to post would look like when posted. A live preview would be too much and not really necessary. Excessive IMHO. But yeah, just a simple preview.

I was thinking of doing a preview like you mention, but I really want the live preview :)

And who wouldn't? :) But the static preview should be a stepping stone for the upcoming live preview (if you decide to implement it).
